The M16, also known as the "black gun", is an assault rifle who's variants are currently used by various militaries around the world. It was originally licensed under ArmaLite, by was sold to Colt. It is a select-fire variant of the civilian AR-15, and was designed in 1956 by Eugene Stoner. It has multiple carbine variants including the Colt Model 733, Colt Model 727, and the M4, which is currently replacing the M16A4 in the United States Armed Forces.
